If this voice finds you, stay.
Sirenie sings an excerpt from her song “Medúzy” in a dreamlike underwater world, surrounded by glowing jellyfish, deep ocean darkness, Czech music, and a haunting female voice.
For a brief moment, we had access to an ARRI Alexa Mini LF large-format cinema camera with LPL mount and professional film equipment. That short window of time became this blue underwater dream, shaped by deep blue lighting, glowing jellyfish, and a dark ethereal music atmosphere.
This is not just an underwater music video. It is a quiet descent into blue light, jellyfish glow, female voice, and deep ocean mystery.

Let’s Learn About Herbs
Ten of the ocean's most disturbing animals share one strange trait: for decades, sometimes centuries, almost no one ever saw them move. From a squid with a mouth like a human smile and a fish with no face, to a jelly that screams in light and a giant filmed alive only after a hundred years of failure, these creatures sat unseen in sealed jars and on unwatched hard drives while the deep quietly kept its secrets. This is the story of the footage that was buried — not by conspiracy, but by the crushing vastness of a world we have barely begun to watch.

🦦 We stopped into the Aquarium of the Bay on our San Francisco trip. Located on the historic waterfront at Pier 39, the Aquarium of the Bay is home to more than 24,000 marine animals including sleek sharks and rays, a secretive octopus, hypnotic jellyfish, sparkling anchovies, frolicking river otters, and many more. Here's a full look at what we experienced to help you decide if it belongs on your San Francisco itinerary!
---
📍 ABOUT AQUARIUM OF THE BAY
The Aquarium of the Bay is dedicated to showcasing the beauty and diversity of Northern California aquatic life, with a mission to educate and inspire a deeper connection to the Bay and encourage conservation of its natural beauty and marine life. Unlike larger aquariums focused on exotic ocean species from around the world, everything here is local - featuring animals from the waters of the San Francisco Bay and surrounding Northern California waterways, making it a uniquely regional experience.
📌 Address: Pier 39, San Francisco, CA 94133
🕙 Hours: Monday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (last entry 4:30 PM)

🐠 WHAT WE SAW & DID
🪼 Jellyfish Gallery — Go With the Flow
As you enter, step into "Go With the Flow" — a tranquil environment featuring five species of mesmerizing sea jellies. Moon jellyfish and Pacific sea nettles drift hypnotically through illuminated tanks, creating a calm and almost otherworldly atmosphere that pulls you in immediately. A beautiful way to start the visit.
🐟 Near Shore Tunnel — Fish All Around You
One of the most immersive experiences in the whole aquarium. Walk through the Near Shore exhibit tunnel, which represents animals found in areas of the Bay that are 10–15 feet deep — including giant sea bass, rainbow-colored rockfish, and swirling schools of anchovies. Walking through with fish swimming overhead, beside you, and beneath you is something kids never forget.
🦈 Deep Water Tunnel — Sharks & Open Ocean
The second tunnel is where things get really exciting. Take a walk through a 300-foot acrylic tunnel with amazing sea life swimming all around you — including sharks gliding just inches overhead. It's thrilling in the best possible way, and our kids had their faces pressed to the glass the entire time.
🐍 PG&E Bay Lab — Reptiles, Amphibians & Touch Exhibits
The PG&E Bay Lab is an interactive exhibit featuring land animals and their various habitats, highlighting the effects of climate change. Visitors have the opportunity to touch California kingsnakes, leopard sharks, and bat rays, participate in interactive experiments, and learn how solar power works. A great change of pace from the aquarium tanks and a big hit with curious kids.
🖐️ Touch the Bay — Touch Pools
The Touch the Bay exhibit is included in general admission and features two touch pools housing sharks, rays, skates, sea stars, and anemones. Getting to reach in and feel a real shark or ray is a genuinely special moment — one of those hands-on experiences that sticks with kids long after the visit.
🦦 River Otter Enclosure
The perfect finale to the whole experience. Watch the otters playing in their habitat and frolicking in their own waterfall — they are endlessly entertaining and impossible not to love. The aquarium occasionally hosts special events like River Otter Snow Days and Breakfast with Ollie the Otter — worth checking the events calendar before your visit for something extra memorable.

✅ TIPS FOR VISITING WITH KIDS
- 🎟️ Buy tickets online in advance to skip the line at the entrance
- ⏰ Plan for about 90 minutes at an average pace — scheduled presentations can extend your visit another 10–20 minutes
- 📅 Weekdays are significantly less crowded — aim for Monday through Thursday if your schedule allows
- 🚌 The Muni F-Line runs along the Embarcadero directly to Pier 39 — each car is a restored heritage streetcar, making the ride part of the adventure
- 💰 Bundle your admission with other SF attractions — the aquarium is included in passes covering San Francisco's top four attractions, with savings up to 45%
- 🦭 While you're at Pier 39, don't miss the world-famous sea lions at K-Dock just outside the aquarium — a free bonus your kids will love
- 📅 Check the events calendar at aquariumofthebay.org for feeding times and special presentations on your visit date
