In this video, I explain why this was not policy criticism, not fair political debate, and not a serious argument. It was a personal attack based on a false conspiracy theory. The bigger problem is that statements like this can spread quickly. Some people hear something once online, on TV, or on YouTube, and they repeat it without checking whether it is true. Smith had several shingle mills on the WA state Olympic Peninsula and refused to withhold from his employees’ paychecks. The DOJ sued and sued and lost every time. Smith’s focus for his legal claims was upon the enactment process of the 1939 and 1954 Internal Revenue Codes and the lack of a congressional quorum at key junctures during enactment. Smith’s shingle mills were then burned to the ground by [somebody]. Smith died of diabetes a couple of years ago, 2020 perhaps. I traveled to Smith’s home in 2018 and was given a copy of his hard drive which I now make available on the FLASH drive I offer.
