TNA ends 2005 with a pretty weak PPV that contains one fantastic match. Barbed Wire Massacre: Abyss vs Sabu I thought this was a decent enough match. Plenty of nasty looking barbed wire dots happened throughout, but for me these guys never got out of first gear. It’s worth noting that both guys had to receive stitches all across their bodies after this match. I’m not sure why some of the wire wasn’t gimmicked but whatever. Austin Aries & Matt Bentley vs Alex Shelley & Roderick Strong A good fast paced tag team match. I feel like Strong could e been a big star in the X Division had he stuck around in TNA. Aries however wouldn’t really find his footing until he returned in 2011. Raven vs Chris K A really poor match that was part of the ongoing storyline of Larry Zbyszko trying to force Raven out of TNA. I believe this was Kanyon’s only appearance in the company before his untimely death in 2010. 4 Live Kru vs Team Canada This marks the fourth PPV match between these teams… I have no earthy reason as to why TNA kept putting these matches on a $40 PPV because this like the other three matches was horrendous. Konnan turned heel and betrayed the group and I didn’t give a shit about any of it. The Diamonds in the Rough vs Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt & Dale Torborg TNA was always really bad in terms of the celebrities it could get, but White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski really takes the cake. Torborg at one point dropped Elix Skipper right on his fucking head, and having to watch Torborg and A.J. get rings afterwards was hilarious. Awful ass match and a waste of television time. The saddest thing about this was listening to Bobby Heenan on commentary. The chemo therapy for his throat cancer had drastically altered his voice, which made it so hard to understand him that Mike Tenay had to repeat everything he said. NWA World Title #1 Contenders Match: Christian Cage vs Monty Brown An enjoyable match that picked the show back up. I laugh because the match graphic for Monty/Jeff Hardy said it was a contenders match, but no follow up happened. Now we get another contenders match because only TNA would do something this stupid. Christian winning was the only logical choice because Monty’s momentum had long sunk by December 2005. Tag Team Tables Match: AMW vs Team 3D An average match at best between these two teams. Unless I am deaf, I don’t remember the match being announced as a an elimination match. Anyway afterwards the announcers tried saying James Storm suffered a neck injury, but he wrestled on the next PPV so that was kinda gross. TNA X Division Title: AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe An excellent match and easily the best thing on this entire PPV. Joe at his peak was an absolute freak of nature because some of the high spots he was doing at his size was incredible. So many awesome spots happened throughout and I loved the finish of Styles getting trapped in the Coquina Clutch and passing out. Tremendous match and a late MOTY contender for TNA in 2005. NWA World Title: Jeff Jarrett vs Rhino A good match that had no chance of following Styles/Joe. Once again the match devolved into a No DQ match even though it was never announced as one… Team Canada got involved to help Jarrett retain the title because god forbid that an actual non fuck finish happen during a Jeff Jarrett main event. Post match saw the tease of Sting but he wouldn’t debut until Final Resolution in January. The song gets to me emotionally as I'm a big Jeff Hardy fan but it's hard seeing him fall time after time. I hope he can keep it together. Nothing but love.
