Believe it or not, that would actually be the most ever. AEW Revolution airs tonight on pay-per-view, and a loaded card features two rising Black stars in position to win high-profile matches. That’s a rarity to this point in AEW, where white wrestlers have dominated on pay-per-view, winning 77% of every pay-per-view match in AEW history, including 81% of singles wins. Headed into Revolution, Black wrestlers have won just 4% of all pay-per-view matches in AEW history, including 3% of singles matches. Of all the instances where a Black talent earned some type of win on pay-per-view—all six of them—four of them involved Scorpio Sky, shout out to him. In its three-year history, AEW has never had more than one Black winner on pay-per-view, something that might happen if Jade Cargill and Keith Lee win their matches. Isiah Kassidy could even add 1/3 of a win as part of a three-man team. Though these numbers remain pathetic, in AEW’s white-dominated promotion, this really is kind of a Revolution for us. The fact that AEW—a predetermined sport—is three years old and can barely put together three Black winners on pay-per-view is hilarious to me. The most popular defense of AEW is—say it with me—“Give it Time,” an often well-intended defense that really doesn’t mean s---t. Whenever I hear people say “Give it Time,” and that “AEW has only been in business for three years,” it reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “I have a Dream, that…” No, no, no, no. What is this public education? This isn’t Black History Month at a White School, this is the Blackest YouTube channel in wrestling. I need Mixtape Martin: “First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom” Oooooh, wee, run that back. Run that s--t BACK! “who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom” I’m tired of the bottom of Twitter setting a timetable for a Black wrestler’s freedom. Having to wait your turn when you know damn well a promoter can make you a top star with the power of the pencil is the definition of being a second-class citizen. They even have a Second-Class Citizen’s title called the FTW Championship. If the IWC had their way, Jade Cargill wouldn’t come anywhere near a championship until she was ready. And enough time had passed before she could be free to slay in her quarter hours. Give it Time is such a prominent excuse, even Booker T gave it credence during our interview in an otherwise thoughtful response. “You’ve got to give those guys a little bit of time to actually get what WWE has, and you’ve got to look at the time WWE took to actually get to where it is right now as well.” I get why so many people fall for the myth of “Give it Time,” but the problem is not all time is created equally. There’s a difference between spending time—or investing time—and wasting it. Give it Time works with Jungle Boy. He’s already been anointed as a pillar. He didn’t need to be “ready” to be a pillar, he’s still very green in a lot of areas but AEW, a scripted wrestling company, has decided he’s worth their time and they’ve rewarded him by spending that time to make sure every aspect of his character—from theme music, to ring gear to origin story—stands out above his peers. AEW is spending time to develop Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, MJF and Hook. They’re wasting time with Will Hobbs, Shawn Dean and the vast majority of its Black roster.

John Brzenk shared his predictions about some East vs West 17 supermatches. Dave Chaffee vs Georgi Tsvetkov Dave is looking so like his old self. I think he's back to his old self and his hand and wrist are super solid. I think Georgi is in trouble. I know he's a big individual, he's hard to get a hold of, but if anybody can get a hold of a tree trunk like that, it'll be Dave. And as long as his hand and wrist hold up, I think it's going to be a bad day for Georgi. The last couple matches I've watched Dave is very high level again. I think Dave is the favorite to win. Devon Larratt vs Corey West I think Corey's the best in the United States, right? Because of the way Corey trained and knows and trains with Michael, and Michael's strengths, Corey's got an incredibly strong cup and hand and wrist. Very few people are stronger, in my opinion, than Corey as far as a hand and wrist goes. He can hang onto some pretty good top rollers and stop them in their track, so whether or not he can turn Devon completely inside and then have the arm strength to beat him. If Corey pulls him outside a little bit, Devon will kind of fall into that little king's move and put a tremendous amount of pressure on your hand and wrist. If Cory can't finish it at that point, it's gonna be ugly. Kody Merritt vs Evgeny Prudnik Kody’s left is great, superior. Just a tad below Cory West. Kody is super strong. Hard to get a hold of. Great back pressure. If Cody can't stretch Prudnik out and pin him right away, I think Cody might be in trouble. I have a ton of respect still for Evgeny, even if he's in horrible shape. I got to root for my old training partner, Kody Merritt for sure. I know how good both guys are. I'll be excited to be able to personally watch that match. John Brzenk vs Yoshi Kanai I've been trying to really get ready for this upcoming match with Yoshi for the last probably 2 or 3 months. For Yoshi, for sure I will rest at least a full two weeks. My plan is to really start to taper off, even though it's four weeks out. Maybe get one more, two more arm wrestling workouts in, but they're going to be light arm wrestling workouts instead of aggressive, hard workouts, and just try to do more of a blood flow. I hope I just don't run out of gas before I have the opportunity to try to try to press him. My greatest hope is that he just doesn't completely overpower me and pull me across the table where I have no angle at all even pretend to try to throw anything like that in there. I also think to myself that I have to be patient like Ermes pulled Michael, and I have to stay upright and allow him to kind of pronate out and hopefully into my hand before I make my move to the side. Then eventually, probably like you say, shoulder roll. I don't think I can right off the get-go be aggressive to the side. I'll feel more confident of what I can and can't do when I get gripped up with him. I would love to be able to come into the match having a little stronger hand and cup where I don't have to rely on the strap or feel like I can't get a hold of the guy without the strap, because I think the strap is also going to give him the advantage. Matt Mask vs Kydyrgali Ongarbaev Matt's looking good, he's looking strong. Matt's one of the most dominant hand and his height is a difficult task. What Matt has lacked is the side pressure, the finishing power. Kydyrgali's got good sticking point, but I'm not sure if he's going to be aggressive enough to really get Matt out of position. The way I see it going is Matt will probably get the upper high ground, better position with the hand, maybe not completely top roll him, and then Kydyrgali will be patient and try to hang on and hang on and bleed him, but it all depends on what kind of shape he is. I think Matt will probably win that battle. I worry sometimes about how strong Matt is, even once he gets that little advantage. Is he going to have enough side pressure? because he's a big guy, long limb. It's difficult to generate that kind of finishing side pressure when you've got those big, long levers. I'm calling bulls--t on all things Karrion Kross until the day he inevitably reappears on WWE TV after bouncing around in TNA and WWE ID Territories like the Industry Planted Fake Renegade he is. That's right, boys and girls, toady's secret word: Is Bullsh!t Haha! Because this entire Karrion Kross situation is a painfully obvious work in a year where WWE has become obsessed with Working the Boys. Today, we're going to talk about how WWE and Karrion Kross continue to manufacture sympathy with the most corporate grass roots movement I've ever seen in my life. We'll also talk about WWE's newfound obsession with the worked shoot and why Karrion Kross answers the age-old question "What would happen if Ron Killings was white." Kross is actually pretty friendly with many a dirtsheet stooge, and as a result, he's been able to leak stories through these sycophants designed to make you think he's leaving. Now WWE wants you to believe Karrion's contract is expired. So WWE gave Karrion Kross all that television time, and a spotlight match against Sami Zayn at SummerSlam knowing he was going to be a free agent days later? You sure about that? Karrion Kross can theoretically show up on Dynamite in front of 1,200 peole this Wednesday? You sure about that?! If this angle was any more heavy handed it would be a knife-edged chop from Gunther.
