Comedian Jeff Ross was the opening act for Eddie Vedder at Seattle's Benaroya Hall on Oct. 23, 2023. Eddie announced Jeff's performance but the introduction was mired by technical difficulties but ended up being unintentionally hilarious. Eddie and Jeff, ever the improv experts.

John Mellencamp plays his song "Longest Days" live in concert at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco, California on March 17, 2023. Longest Days appeared on Mellencamp's twentieth studio album, Life Death Love And Freedom (2008). John Mellencamp is a Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter from Seymour, Indiana. Mellencamp is on tour for his 76-date Live And In Person Tour. Joining him on this song were Andrew York (guitar) and Troye Kinnett (accordion). ================= Longest Days lyrics: It seems like once upon a time ago I was where I was supposed to be My vision was true and my heart was too There was no end to what I could dream I walked like a hero into the setting sun Everyone called out my name Death to me was just a mystery I was too busy raisin' up Cain But nothing lasts forever Your best efforts don’t always pay Sometimes you get sick And you don’t get better That’s when life is short Even in its longest days So you pretend not to notice That everything has changed The way that you look And the friends you once had So you keep on acting the same But deep down in your soul You know you got no flame And who knows then which way to go? Life is short even in its longest days All I got here Is a rear view mirror Reflections of where I’ve been So you tell yourself, "I’ll be back up on top some day" But you know there’s nothing waiting up there for you anyway Nothing lasts forever And your best efforts don’t always pay Sometimes you get sick And you don’t get better That’s when life is short Even in its longest days Life is short Even in its longest days Written by John Mellencamp ========================== Live And In Person Tour dates (2023): Feb. 5-6 —Bloomington, IN @ Indiana University Auditorium Feb. 8 — Charlotte, NC @ Ovens Auditorium Feb. 10 — Atlanta, GA @ Fox Theatre Feb. 11 — Jacksonville, FL @ Moran Theater Feb. 13-15 — Clearwater, FL @ Ruth Eckerd Hall Feb. 18-19 — Orlando, FL @ Walt Disney Theater Feb. 21-22 — Ft. "No Kings" protests are happening across the country this weekend on Saturday -- with dozens also planned here in Northeast Ohio in Cleveland, Akron, Canton and more -- as demonstrators show their opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration. "As President Trump escalates his attempts to control us, it is on us, the people, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country," according to the "No Kings" site. "If he believes we will roll over and allow him to take our freedoms, he is mistaken. We are coming together again on March 28 because we know we can overcome this repression when we unite." In addition to Cleveland, Akron and Canton, local "No Kings" protests are also being held at various times in multiple other Northeast Ohio communities, including Shaker Heights, Parma, Strongsville, Hudson, Cuyahoga Falls, Kent, Alliance, Sandusky, Chardon, North Ridgeville, Avon Lake and more. This map shows where all of the "No Kings" rallies are happening nationwide. The "No Kings" site explains their stance for these protests with the following statement: "Masked secret police terrorizing our communities. An illegal, catastrophic war putting us in danger and driving up our costs. Attacks on our freedom of speech, our civil rights, our freedom to vote. Costs pushing families to the brink. Trump wants to rule over us as a tyrant. But this is America, and power belongs to the people - not to wannabe kings or their billionaire cronies." Grit & Grace: The Fight for the American Dream is a groundbreaking documentary-style film produced by the U.S. House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth. Narrated by EMMY® award-winning actress Sarah Jessica Parker, this first-of-its-kind movie features three true stories from across the country of what it means to find economic security in America, as well as the diverse paths people are taking to get there. While the families featured represent different backgrounds, perspectives, and political leanings, all of them share the same dream of financial stability, as well as gripping stories of struggle, ambition, and hope.
This is the fifth Lorde song I translate (yep, I'm a fan). The first four versions were fairly literal. This one is more political. Ethnic prejudice here in Israel/Palestine is currently going even further out of control than it usually does, and I can't just sit there and watch it happen. Everyone living in this country is on my team, no matter how much they may loath each other. I used Lorde's imagery and expended on it to question segregation, fear-mongering and hate-mongering, and to promote solidarity and understanding. The first verse references "Lehava", an extremist Israeli organization which demonizes Palestinian men, presenting them all as sexual predators hungry for Jewish flesh. Ironically, Lehava's propaganda reflects hate speech that was used to demonize my own Jewish ancestors pre-WWII Europe. Such talk simply worsens the cycle of violence. Sadly, our leaders, and Mr. Netanyahu in particular, fail to condemn hate speech and indeed contribute to it, furthering the harm. Original song by Ella Yelich-O'connor and Joel little Hebrew by Yuval Ben-Ami (click cc for English subtitles) Come and step forth Leave your hatred at the door It is no longer of use. Come prepared to heed a different call. Step in, Jewish girls, You daughters of a king, So graceful Now, Arab boys, Step in too, with sugary eyes And we shall all fall in love On a cold moonlit night Dancing among the fears, Two sides made one, Even the dead do not incite hate. We are trapped already as children. In fenced yards they keep us segregated. We'll build a palace on the ruins of those lies And know We are friends We are friends I have no reason to believe That my neighbor is the devil, So enough. I see no reason not to hold love in both my arms So enough So glasses get broken In mixed weddings And swords are sharpened in the background They seek the love of God In hatred, of all things With flames of death Not hope.
