A huge swarm of jellyfish has invaded the surfers' paradise of Australia's Gold Coast.
The amount of the marine animals was so great, they seemed to fill every inch of the sea.
Photographer and lifesaver Grahame Long snapped the amazing pictures of the jellyfish as they floated off Narrowneck near Brisbane.
The mass was floating about 400m offshore and extended about 50m in circumference.
Grahame Long said: “I’ve seen plenty of jellyfish around before but this was certainly the thickest I’ve ever seen."
“They were all congregated in one area.”
The mass has since dispersed and a trail now extends from Surfers Paradise to the Gold Coast Seaway.
Jellyfish blew into the Coast across Christmas because of strong north-easterly winds and have since strayed across our shores, bothering swimmers and surfers who are frequently getting stung.
In recent days the Coast has also been hit with blue bottle stingers and a walk along the shore will see both spotted along the sand.

Octopuses are marine animals, that live and breath underwater, so at low tide one would expect them to be imprisoned in rocky pools. This extraordinary species found in Northern Australia is like no other Octopus, and land is no obstacle when hunting for Crabs. Subscribe: http://bit.ly/BBCEarthSub

The Deep Sea Midwater | Worlds of the Deep, a collaboration with Schmidt Ocean Institute. Thank you to Brilliant for sponsoring Natural World Facts 🧠💡 - for a 30-day free trial and 20% off an annual premium subscription visit https://brilliant.org/NaturalWorldFacts/
In the deep ocean, life is divided between very different worlds inhabited by weird and wonderful deep sea creatures. In the midwater, pelagic wanderers tread migratory routes that span entire oceans, and planktonic drifters and their predators take part in bioluminescent light shows. It is separated into zones based on depth, including the sunlight zone (epipelagic), twilight zone (mesopelagic), midnight zone (bathypelagic), abyssal and hadal zones. And below, lies the deep sea floor. A kingdom of mud and ooze, where sessile creatures cling to any solid outcrop and corals craft kingdoms on the seamount crusts. The worlds of the deep sea could not be more different, and yet their stories are fundamentally intertwined. In this episode, we delve into the Midnight Zone and the Twilight Zone, where anglerfish, giant sharks, and bioluminescent wonders are found traversing the void. Join as we uncover fascinating deep ocean facts and mysteries.
This film features only real footage of deep sea creatures. It is the combination of my Twilight Zone and Midnight Zone films, featuring re-recorded narration and updated visuals. You can find the episodes on my channel individually as well.

Schmidt Ocean Institute (SOI) is a non-profit oceanographic research foundation that has been pioneering deep-sea research and discovery since 2009, on board their old vessel RV Falkor and their new RV Falkor (too). Their remotely operated vehicle (ROV) SuBastian is equipped with a suite of sensors and a 4K camera that has illuminated the depths and live-streamed dives around the world. Most footage shown is filmed and provided by SOI. Huge thank you to them for contributing their footage, and working with me to create this series! Check out their website: https://schmidtocean.org/

Chinese Cold Jellyfish Salad is a traditional famous dish in Shanghai, which belongs to Shanghai cuisine. The basic characteristics are bright yellow color, crisp and tender chewing, salty with sweet, fragrant onion. We commonly use aged jellyfish to cook this recipe.
As a newbie, we should not use hot water to blanch the jellyfish. Using the normal water to immerse them will be better. In this recipe, we also use sesame seeds to tart up. If you don't want to fry it, you can buy it for this recipe.
