And it's here were you really see the difrence between people who actually now about football and people who not. To let this clear, pepe wasn't banned because of the foul (it would have probally been just a free kick, or most dramatic a yellow card) but because of the agressive action. The way he attacked Müller by doing that "agressive" gesture was the reason he was banned, not because of the foul. -Sorry for my english

Its not the fact on whether or not it hurt, but the sheer un-sportsmanship Pepe showed to Muller. That's why Muller did everything he could to expose the disrespect he got from Pepe. In my opinion Pepe got what he had coming, and he deserved every last bit of that red card.
