I recently realized that Luke cutting off the Wampa’s arm was foreshadowing when Darth Vader cut off Luke’s arm.

The entire scene was created to give Luke a reason to have the facial scars that Mark Hamill got in a car crash prior to filming. But now it's very hard to imagine Empire without this scene.

The scene where Luke’s trying to reach / call for the lightsaber, fails.. Focuses his mind and really starts to use the Force to call it to him, with the Force theme playing in the background, will never not be EPIC!

2:34 lightsaber deactivation sound, yet lightsaber stays lit

Fun fact: Mark Hamill actually threw his lightsaber in the snow and George Lucas had that scene played in reverse to make it look like he's using the force. Pretty cool.

Fun fact: Mark Hammil once said that Luke doesn't blame Wampa for wanting to eat him, because it is a animal that wants to survive and follows its instict.

I love how we hear the sound of the lightsaber turning off but it stays on

The wampa was clearly force sensitive, and when Luke tried to get the lightsaber he reacted to it.

This was the first snow monster scene I ever saw that actually traumatized me.

The reason this was the first scene in the film was because Mark Hamill had crashed his car after the first movie and had scars on his face that needed to be explained.
