John Prine "If you're wondering how John Prine, one of America's greatest living songwriters, came up with such great lyrics, just look to your mailbox. John tells @WTF with Marc Maron Podcast how his days as a mailman provided him time to ruminate on music, which led to his discovery by Kris Kristofferson, his friendship with Steve Goodman, and his encounters with Bob Dylan, Sam Phillips, Bonnie Raitt and others. Yup. My husband died two months ago, and this was our song. I asked myself tonight, "Do you want to cry?" And I guess I did want to cry, because I played this song, and I cried.

The happiest, goofiest, funniest love song ever. So why does it put a lump in my throat? And how is this not everybody’s go-to wedding song? Pure magic

Last night as I took my walk outside, I heard John Prine blaring out the window of my neighbor's house...and I smiled underneath my CCOVID-19 mask. And then the guy on the corner was playing John Prine on his guitar sitting on his screened-in porch, and on and on it went, almost every other house! So many people grieving right now. But also grateful for all of the humor, sensitivity, and talent that we were blessed to experience. Rest in peace John. We love you.
