look like you oversteamed them. Shouldve been less than a minue, just enough that the clams slightly begin to open up, then you can slip the clamknife in. But Most people dont steam at all. simply prying open the clams. which keeps them full size before prep and fry

Do u realize that fried clams are made with soft shell clams . Also you're supposed to fry them from raw not steamed. I'm surprised those clams u cooked weren't to tuff to eat.
