So as someone who was a teenager when marble hornets was releasing their content, like experiencing that live, its not that marble hornets MAKES slenderman scary. Marble hornets MADE slenderman scary. Without marble hornets slender man would not have gotten nearly as popular as it did.

not only is “the operator” a scarier name than the slender man, it’s objectively better in terms of it tells you what he does. slender man is “hey, this is what this freak of nature looks like” but the operator is “we Think this is what he does…” it gives you a sense that he’s a passive antagonist. he stands by and watches, but everything that happens in the series is his doing. it’s his operation.

My headcanon regarding the Operator's origin has always been that Alex accidentally "imagined" him into existence.

My theory is The Operator is just a big fan of student films and is simply just watching and thinks all the death and madness is apart of the movie since they are always recording and everyone else is just losing it for no real reason.

Fun fact about the guy Alex kills at 1:12:51, the dude was pretty much a friend of the creators of Marble Hornets who basically made an offer to them telling them that he was willing to be a random person they can add to the body count in Marble Hornets. I think you can tell what their answer was.
