Gilles, a legend. A part of us left with him..

I watched Gilles win at Monaco in 1981 while on a trip with friends. After the race we visited the Ferrari factory where one of my friends looked at the Daytona Spider that he had purchased new prior to shipping it to the US for delivery. The factory was in absolute celebration after winning at Monaco. A great race and a amazing driver. Thank you Gilles.

He was the master of the wet and slippery of the slides and of the fog . All of these came from his snowmobile experience

I'm so very proud of Gilles, a fellow Canadian. A hell of a racing driver. A life ended far too soon. RIP Gilles

Just think what he could have done in today's cars. RIP

And he got there through sheer talent. Didn't buy his rides like a couple of fellow Canadians.

We realize now how dangerous the F1 cars were in this period. That makes the legend of Villeneuve even greater. The man had skill but was also fearless. It is a tragedy that he was lost but a bigger tragedy that the rules and construction practices were so bad.

Gilles was brilliant! He was gifted with a true racing pulse and spirit, that only a few have, like Senna and Max.

Slip-sliding away, those were the days.

I saw Gilles race snowmobiles in my hometown of Beausejour Manitoba long before he went to F1. He was special.
