No Nonsense Spirituality | Britt Hartley A simple viral thought experiment reveals something much deeper: your hierarchy of values. In this video, Britt Hartley explores the famous Red Button vs. Blue Button ethical dilemma, examining why some people prioritize cooperation and trust while others prioritize survival and responsibility. Through philosophy, psychology, nihilism, and moral reasoning, this discussion uncovers what our instinctive answers say about fear, courage, integrity, and human solidarity. (3 days ago)

No Nonsense Spirituality | Britt Hartley Most people spend their lives avoiding thoughts of death—but what if facing mortality directly could make life richer, calmer, and more meaningful? In this video, Britt Hartley explores the psychology of death anxiety through Terror Management Theory, religious belief, Buddhist practice, Stoic philosophy, and personal experience. By comparing the final teachings traditionally attributed to Jesus and Buddha, she reveals two radically different approaches to mortality: creating meaning through a larger story or learning to accept impermanence as a fundamental part of life. When I saw a gift shop and an ATM in my church lobby as a child, that’s when I knew.

It's like a magic trick. Once you see how the trick is done, you can never see the illusion again, even if you wanted to. Great vid.

"millions of gods have already died and are no longer being worshipped" that's a great way to word it

I resonate with your deconstruction. It always make me angry when someone goes "you just hate god" or "you were never a real Christian". Dawg, I spent YEARS trying to find my way back, asking leaders in my church, my parents, and Jesus for help. It was stressful, uncomfortable, and lonely. I worked harder to keep my faith than most believers ever did. But its just not real, and I cant make myself believe in something that isn't real.

The whole "Aren't you afraid of God's wrath" question should tell you all you need to know about religion and faith.

It takes real strength to stay true to yourself, and most people don't have that.

The feeling I got in church was the exact same feeling i had at an EDM concert with a bunch of strangers dancing to the same song. What this means it's that we are really there for the connection.

Ex-muslim here. Had a very similar story to you. There is a joke now in my country Iran saying the single book that produced more atheists than any other book is Quran. It's true that most people who feverishly beleive in it never really read anything from original texts of Islam. Once you start digging deep, cracks appear, you dig deeper hoping to find the root of the crack and fix it, you dig and it cracks more, some might stop out of fear, if you dig more it all eventually falls apart. Something seen cannot be unseen. and that is liberating.

"it's like the god box gets smaller and smaller until one day there's no god in it at all" very good quote

I really needed this. I've been a die-hard Christian my entire life and I (unknowingly) started heavily deconstructing in January.

33:02" the more complex the apologetics get, the more unethical it is" great point

I lost my faith gradually. I thought it would come back. Finally I realized the religions were literally all the same

The "you just want to sin" accusation by believers is one of THE STUPIDEST lines. If we just wanted to sin, wouldn't we want to stay a believer so we could be forgiven? Leaving the faith would mean no forgiveness anymore. But believers avoid logic, so....
